To inspire. Architecture must be seen. Must be experienced. Most often through photographs. A set of ideas. A selection of moments. A complete representation.
To make the strongest images possible, each commission demands a creative partnership between architect and photographer, with a simple process and clear communication throughout.
Scope definition
Each commission is different. The time and resources required depend on the number of images needed, and the nature and scale of the project.
I first establish with the client what the photographs need to achieve, how many images are required, and where they will be used. This also determines the appropriate image usage licence.
Fee estimate
Once the scope is agreed, I will prepare a fee estimate. This sets out the estimated fees and expenses to complete the commission, together with the image usage licence terms.
Shoot planning x preparation
A suitable date and other planning arrangements for the shoot are then agreed together. This often also includes an advance site visit and development of a shot schedule.
Preparation is an important part of a successful shoot. This ensures the project is ready beforehand, so the architecture can be photographed at its best on the shoot date.
The shoot
I aim to make the most of the time available during the shoot, but each shot takes as long as it takes.
Some images come together quickly; others require more time to get right. That is the difference between taking a picture and making one. Between documentation and interpretation.
The aim is simple: to make the strongest photographs I can within the available time and circumstances.
Image editing x proofs
Editing can take as long as, or longer than, the actual photography.
Edited proofs are issued as an online gallery for client review and image selection, within two weeks of the shoot date, unless otherwise agreed.
Final images
The completed image set and an image usage licence are delivered via download to complete the commission.
Publication support
I maintain relationships with leading publication editors and can assist with introductions and editorial submissions.
